Soundtrack to my Life

Saw this on Reinventing Fabulous and it sounded so fun I wanted to do it myself.

Make a soundtrack to your life with five songs:

1. A song that lifts you up

“Now and For Always”–The Lord of the Rings musical

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I love the music in the Lord of the Rings musical. This song is my favorite, though, because it’s about the Frodo and Sam relationship, which is about pure love. The affection between these two, the true devotion is just beautiful, and it always makes my heart warm to think about–especially when I hear this song. 🙂

2. A song that makes you dance

“Twistin’ the Night Away”–Sam Cooke

They play this a lot at swing events and as soon as I hear those opening drums I HAVE to run on the dance floor and find someone to dance with. I love the beat, the lyrics, I am dancing right now just thinking about it.

3. A song that makes you sing along

“Be Prepared”–The Lion King soundtrack

This is the first one that popped into my head because anytime this comes on when my nephew is in the car he literally makes me sing. It’s OK, though, because I do a killer Scar. 😉

4. A song for tough times

“Iron Men Theme (Instrumental)”–Black Sabbath/Ramin Djawadi

So when having a rough time I like to go for a long drive with the windows down and crank the hell out of this song. It’s perfect. The guitar riffs and the drum solos soothe my soul. True story.

5. A feisty, ass-kicker song to inspire you.

“Follow Your Arrow”–Kacey Musgraves

I will let the song lyrics do the talking for me here:

“You’re damned if you do
And you’re damned if you don’t
So you might as well just do whatever you want…

Make lots of noise
Kiss lots of boys
Or kiss lots of girls if that’s what you’re in to…

Just follow your arrow wherever it points.

So those are mine. What are yours? 🙂

  1. Hmm, without overthinking this:
A song to lift me up: Let My Love Open the Door by Pete Townsend. My all time favorite song in the world.
A song to make me dance: Wake Me up Before You Go by Wham! Because Wham! And in college this filled the club floor like nothing else.
A song that makes you sing along: Paradise by the Dashboard Lights by Meatloaf. As a duet with my husband, always.
A song to inspire you: Heroes – David Bowie from the concert for 9/11
A feisty kick-ass song to inspire you: Bad Reputation by Joan Jett. (Ideally followed by her cover of Love is All Around. I listen to these on the way to work if it’s going to be one of those days.)

OK, that was fun! But this list needs more Prince. Bonus song: I Wanna Be Your Lover.

    • Oh, Wham! my mom used to play that song all the time, and George Michael’s other stuff too. She had a VHS with a bunch of his music videos that she would watch. That and “Cold-Hearted Snake” by Paula Abdul. lol.

It IS a fun meme, huh? And it’s really hard to pick just 5!
