Pinterest

So, how many of you guys are on Pinterest? I’m addicted! Addicted, I tell you. I’m quasi-organized, a weird hybrid creature; I can be super organized when the occasion calls for it and horribly messy/all over the place if I’m not paying attention. Pinterest clearly applies to the organized part of my soul. I found it when Jennifer Crusie mentioned she had one on her blog.

She uses it for all kinds of stuff, but what really piqued my interest is she uses it to collect images for her books. That’s why I first hopped on the band wagon and I am finding it very lovely and useful for that. I’ve got boards going for three of my books right now. Heir to the Underworld, my YA fantasy romance that I wrote as E.D. Walker. My first (potential) Beth Matthews book Beauty and the Bouncer. And the book that I’m brainstorming for when I finally finish B&B revisions.

The first two boards I made as the books were finished so those were basically just grabbing images I already had saved on my hard drive for the book. But the last book I haven’t really started yet so that board is a huge mishmosh. I’m grabbing costume ideas, inspiration for the characters, quotes, just all kinds of random stuff that sparked in my brain. And I find I’m a lot less selective for images when I’m pinning than when they’re going to be taking up space on my hard drive. Pinterest is very freeing, I find. ๐Ÿ™‚

What I didn’t expect was to start using it for other stuff, but I’ve found it’s really great for finding and saving recipes. It’s where I discovered the chicken marsala pasta recipe I am currently addicted to (and which I will probably be blogging about soon). There are a bunch of other recipes I pinned that I plan to try in coming weeks when I feel ambitious.

I’m also using it as a future shopping list for cute dresses and shoes. I’m planning to have a very different body type at the end of March and I fully intend to buy and fit myself into many of the cute dresses and shoes on my Style board. The site is also great for storing all that funny shit you find on the internet that you love and want to share with people but that you don’t necessarily need cluttering up your hard drive. Behold the Fun Stuff board and the Great Images.

So, Pinterest pretty much rocks. And if you aren’t on there yet, what are you waiting for?! ๐Ÿ˜€

Cheers,

Beth Matthews

  1. Looks great, Beth.
I’ve stayed away from Pinterest. I’m afraid that I might get addicted. I know that Jenny Crusie and Lani Diane Rich and Anne Stuart love it. But I find juggling too much leaves me brain dead…and I have to write. So. Not going there. : )

    • Yeah, I’ve had several people tell me they won’t touch it because they know they will swiftly become addicted. To me it’s worth it but everyone has to make their own choice. LOL. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for popping over. You are my first comment for Beth Matthews. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Love the new website, but why, oh why did you have to mention Pinterest? Just what I need, another distraction! LOL It sounds useful, but lordy, I don’t need to go there. Best of luck with the name and genre change. I know exactly what you mean. It’s like taking on a new personality. Best of luck!

  3. Website’s awesome, and I love Pinterest. Following some of your boards there now.

One tip – make sure on all your links they all OPEN IN ANOTHER PAGE. Because I clicked a link and it shot me right to Pinterest – which is cool, but it didn’t leave the website open, which meant I had to follow the breadcrumbs (aka the LARAlink) to get back here to leave my comment.

  4. Hi Beth! This blog is great. It reflects your tone as a romantic comedy author, and I found your info on Pinterest great. Like Robena – I won’t go there. I waste enough time doodling around the Internet. I make the old fashioned picture board collages for my books, and, for now, I’ll stick with that.

Writing must come first for me.

I love your new look. wishing much success.

  5. I’m with Robena and have avoided Pinterest with a passion. If it is anything like Twitter, I’d be in trouble and thus, staying off of it for as long as possible. Love the new web site.
